Samsung Dual-SIM GALAXY S DUOS with Android 4.0 ICS

The first pictures of the Samsung Galaxy S DUOS leaked about a month ago, along with the phone’s full specs sheet. Today, the South Korean handset manufacturer made the Galaxy S DUOS official.

The latest addition to the Galaxy smartphone family will be available in Europe starting from September. Samsung confirmed the Galaxy S DUOS would be rolled out across other territories soon after the European launch next month.

Design-wise, the Galaxy S DUOS strongly resembles the Galaxy S III, though there are several differences between the two smartphones.

As the name suggests, the Galaxy S DUOS is a dual-SIM handset powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

According to Samsung, the smartphone features its unique ‘Dual SIM Always on’ feature, which allows users to receive calls on one SIM number while taking a call from the other.

In addition, Galaxy S DUOS owners will be able to select different billing plans for either SIM, so they can switch between them at their leisure

Although not among the most powerful Android phones available on the market, Galaxy S DUOS does its job perfectly as a mid-range device.

In this regard, the smartphone is equipped with a 1 GHz single-core processor, an Adreno 200 GPU, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The Galaxy S DUOS also sports a 4.0-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

There’s also a 5-megapixel rear photo snapper that features autofocus and LED flash, as well as a secondary VGA front facing camera for video calls.

Last but not least, the new mid-range Android phone comes with a 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any details on the phone’s pricing options, but we expect more info will emerge closer to launch. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for Samsung GALAXY S III Confirmed for August

Samsung reportedly plans to launch the latest Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S III sometime next week. Rumors on the upcoming release surfaced last week, though Samsung has yet to come forward with an official announcement.

However, today, the folks over at AndroidCentral claim they have been able to confirm Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S III is indeed coming within the next several days.

The cited report mentions “sources familiar with Samsung’s plans” confirmed the firmware was in the final stages of testing and would soon be released for general public.

Keep in mind that this build will only be available for international Samsung Galaxy S III devices, though other builds might be released for North American version soon after.

It is also worth mentioning that sources close to the matter claim the Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S III will be announced shortly after the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event, which is set to take place on August 29 at IFA 2012, in Berlin, Germany.

We expect Samsung to announce the Galaxy Note sequel on August 29, which means the update will be announced immediately after Galaxy Note II is unveiled.

Word is that Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S III will be initially rolled out in several European countries, including the UK. The update will be pushed in stages in other regions as well, except North America.

For the time being, there’s no info on the upcoming Jelly Bean update for the North American version of Galaxy S III, but Samsung will probably offer this upgrade at some point by the end of the year.

Hopefully, all these confirmed rumors will prove accurate and Galaxy S III will receive the hotly-anticipated Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update next week. We will be blogging live from Samsung Mobile Unpacked event on August 29, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
